Mandi sits at 760m on the Beas, about 150km (5 hours) from Shimla and directly on NH3, the main route north to Kullu and Manali. Locally it's called "Chhoti Kashi" (Varanasi of the hills) for its cluster of over 80 temples. We route most Himachal-bound groups through here as an overnight break rather than a standalone trip; it's honest value as a stopover, not as a week-long destination.
Temple Town Walk
Over 80 stone and wood temples within the town itself, most within easy walking distance of each other along the Beas.
Rewalsar Lake
A small floating-reed lake sacred to Buddhists, Sikhs, and Hindus alike, about 24km from Mandi town: a half-day trip worth the detour.
Prashar Lake
A high-altitude lake with a floating island and a three-tiered pagoda temple, reached by a moderate day trek from the Mandi–Kullu road.
Pandoh Dam
A short stop on the way to Kullu, the Beas dammed into a still, green reservoir against the hillside. Five minutes, worth the photo.
