Indus valley in the Himalayas near Leh, Ladakh

Ladakh · High Passes · 3,000–5,400m

The roof of the world, by road.

Rohtang, Baralacha La, Tanglang La: five passes above 5,000m between Manali and the Indus valley. Ten days, one legendary drive, our most demanding route.

Leh–Ladakh,
Route Guide

Leh sits at roughly 3,500m, reached either by the Manali–Leh Highway (490km, minimum two driving days, open only June–September) or by flying directly into Leh and driving out. We run both: the highway for travelers who want the drive itself as the experience, the fly-in route for those short on time who still want Nubra, Pangong, and the monasteries. Either way, we build in acclimatisation days; altitude sickness above 3,500m is a real risk we don't take shortcuts on.

Pangong Lake

A 134km-long lake straddling the India–China border, changing colour through the day from deep blue to green. Roughly 5 hours from Leh, best at sunrise or sunset.

Nubra Valley

Cold-desert sand dunes at 3,000m with Bactrian camels, reached over Khardung La. Diskit Monastery watches over the valley from a hillside above.

Thiksey & Hemis Monasteries

Thiksey's tiered whitewashed gompa is often compared to Lhasa's Potala Palace; Hemis hosts Ladakh's largest monastic festival every summer.

Khardung La

One of the highest motorable passes in the world at roughly 5,359m: the gateway to Nubra, and a bucket-list stop in its own right.
