Spiti sits between 3,800m and 4,500m, a cold desert wedged between the Himalaya and the Tibetan plateau. It's reachable two ways: via Kinnaur from Shimla (roughly 460km, open most of the year) or over Kunzum La from Manali (open only June–October, weather permitting). Villages here are Buddhist, the architecture is closer to Tibet than to the rest of Himachal, and the light at 4,000m does something no camera fully captures. This is the route we ask every client to physically prepare for: acclimatisation days are non-negotiable.
Key Monastery & Kaza
Spiti's largest monastery, perched on a hilltop above the Spiti river, and Kaza, the sub-divisional town that anchors every itinerary through the valley.
Chandratal Lake
"Moon Lake": a crescent of impossibly blue water at 4,300m, reachable only by road June through October. The single image most people come here for.
Dhankar & Pin Valley
A monastery built directly into a cliff face, and beyond it Pin Valley National Park, home to the elusive snow leopard and Himalayan ibex.
Kibber Village
One of the highest motorable villages in the world at 4,270m: flat-roofed stone houses, and views that make the altitude worth it.
